  • Review status of everyone’s projects (~2-3 minutes each)
  • Set up WordPress.com accounts

  • Tour tools that you can use to publish an e-book or web publication, from simple to complex (ppt)
  • “Blogs” versus “web sites”
  • Overview: WordPress as a content management system; the difference between pages and posts; how to create/edit; parent-child relationships

Hosting

Lab Work

  • In-class (~20-25 minutes): set up WordPress.com accounts and then add students to the course blog as authors. (I will need the email address you’ve used to set up your WP.com accounts.)
  • In-class (~15 minutes)create a page for your project on this site. You may mark your page as private – if desired, we will all use the same password.
  • Software (screen captures) :  Skitch (Mac only) or Jing (Mac/Windows)

Assignments (tonight and next week)

  • Project post due January 15: migrate your project plans to this site. Edit the course assignments page  and create a link to your page to (order the pages alpha by student first name).
  • Homework due January 15: set up individual WordPress.com sites; modify the theme from the default; edit the course assignments page and create a link to your WordPress.com site (alphabetical by student first name)
  • Reading before next Wednesday: Using WordPress, Ch 3, 5, 7
  • Extra Credit: make a post here (this course blog) that is a resource or news item related to course topics; select the category “resources” for your post.
